Charlotte Bogard Macleod is a BBC Drama nominated playwright drawn inexorably to stories about women who are chafing against the narrow confines of society, grappling with love, and fighting to change the system.
Her plays have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and performed on the British stage. Casts have included Andrew Scott, Helena Bonham-Carter, Joely Richardson, George MacKay, and Claire Rushbrook.
Charlotte is the co-creator and book writer of a new original musical entitled Misfits Together about Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, with music and lyrics by Ralph Pelleymounter and Dan Smith, lead singer of Grammy-nominated band Bastille.
She is currently under commission to write two feature films and her first novel.
Recipient of The Jerwood Arvon Playwright prize, she is currently under commission to write her first novel, and has two feature films in development. Misfits Together is her first musical.
A passionate cinephile – she founded and run The Script Factory – one of Britain’s leading film development organisations for filmmakers. Described by The Times as “the beating heart of the British film industry”, The Script Factory is highly regarded for its staged readings, screenwriting programs and masterclasses
She was an active elected Board member the British Council, Scottish Screen and The Film Committee of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). ( She promises she is not nearly as opinionated as this list makes her sound.)
During the Covid lockdown, alongside Dan Smith, she co-hosted an online film club, Distraction Tactics, whose weekly audiences reached up to 60,000 people, connecting with film lovers from around the globe.
Charlotte currently hosts a podcast SCREEN PLAYERS CLUB with filmmakers guests including Sam Taylor-Johnson, Joachim Trier and Dame Pippa Harris.
